Verizon provides four modems/routers for their Fiber Optic Internet (Fios) customers. They are:

• Simple Verizon Router
• Fios Router
• Fios Quantum Gateway
• Fios Advanced WiFi Router

Here we take a Fios Advanced WiFi Router as an example to continue the guide. Verizon provides four wireless routers to its customers. They are:

• Verizon MI424WR rev. I
• Verizon MI424WR rev G
• Verizon MI424WR
• Actiontec MI424WR Wireless

Let us change the default wireless network name of a Verizon Fios Router.

How to Change the Default FIOS Router Wireless Network Name?


You can change the current FIOS router wireless network name (SSID) by following the steps below.

1. Connect your computer to the Verizon Fios Router using an Ethernet cable.
   
   Connect the Ethernet port to one of the LAN ports on the router and the LAN port on your PC.
2. Power on the Fios Router and wait till the lights are steady.
3. Open a browser ( Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) and type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar.
   
   Press the Enter key to connect to the GUI of the Verizon router.
4. You will reach the Verizon Router login window. The default username of a Fios router is admin. Enter admin as the username.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   The default Verizon FIOS Router login password is on the bottom of the router. Type that password in the password field.
   
   Click the OK button to access the FIOS Router Setup window.
5. Now you are on the Fios Router Setup page.
   
   
   
   Click the Wireless Settings to access the GUI to change the Verizon wireless network name and password.
6. You can change the default SSID with a new name on the Wireless Settings window.
   
   
   
   
   The new SSID will be the new name for your Verizon WiFi network. Click the Apply button to save the SSID name change.

Now go to your wireless client (Smart Phone or Wireless laptop) and scan for the available wireless network. You will find a new network with the new name you set as the SSID.

That means you have successfully changed the Verizon FIOS Wireless network name.

How to Change Verizon Fios Wireless Password?

1. Repeat steps one to five from the previous process.
2. Select the Advanced Security Settings.
   
   
   
   Select the radio button WPA2.
3. Now you will see the default WPA2 settings. Select the radio button Custom Pre-shared Key.
   
   
   
   Type the new WPA2 password and click the Apply button to save.

You have successfully changed the Verizon wireless network password. Use the new WPA2 key to join the wireless network.
