Chances of Getting a Senior Level IT Job in New York After a Career Break

Hey, is anyone as frustrated as me in getting re-entry into the IT career after a break? I worked in the software industry for more than Twenty Five years till last year. I worked in CA, took a break for nearly one year, and moved to New York to join my family.

I was under the impression that being a senior software engineer with tons of experience nothing could prevent me from getting a new job after this break. Do you know what? The current US tech job industry proved I was wrong.

I applied to many companies and finally found out that most job listings are fake. I know SysToSys is a dedicated community for IT professionals. What do you think about the chances of getting a senior level IT job in New York for a person with one year career break?

I understand your situation, Martin. Taking a long break in the IT career is not wise in today's market conditions. The easiest way to get back into the IT industry is through contacts. I hope you have contacts like former colleagues or college mates in New York City working in the IT sector. Refresh your friendship and ask them to refer you to the HR department.

Stanly wrote a valuable suggestion for you, Martin. In my experience, most senior-level posts in the IT sector are through references. You should reach out to your NYC friends and seek their help.
